Creating Beautifully Authentic Teaware in China’s Historical Porcelain Capital

In order for you to brew your tea with beautiful authenticity and infuse your home with effortless style, Tranquil Tuesdays partners with artists in China’s ancient porcelain capital, Jingdezhen, to design and craft our unique and beautiful teaware pieces.

Handmade Exclusive Creations

All of Tranquil Tuesdays’ teaware is handcrafted in Jingdezhen, China’s ancient porcelain capital. We travel there frequently and work with small studios and emerging artisans to design each piece of our teaware, combining modern design with authentic Chinese porcelain traditions. Each piece is designed and handcrafted exclusively for Tranquil Tuesdays.

Jingdezhen: Ancient and Contemporary Porcelain Crafting Center

Porcelain from Jingdezhen has come to represent the pinnacle of Chinese craftsmanship, as China’s most skilled porcelain and pottery masters have perfected their craft in the city for centuries. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), official kilns designated for imperial porcelain production were housed in Jingdezhen, and the city’s porcelain has been one of China’s most prized artisan traditions ever since. Aspiring porcelain artists continue to flock to Jingdezhen to join the artisan community and study at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, China’s premier center of ceramic higher learning.

Continuing the Legacy of Traditional Tea Brewing Techniques

Honoring the legacy of ancient tea traditions, Tranquil Tuesdays offers traditional teaware pieces, such as gong fu style teacups and the gaiwan. Gong fu refers to a traditional brewing and presentation method of enjoying Chinese teas slowly, sip by sip. The gaiwan is a versatile piece of traditional Chinese teaware, as it can be used as both the brewing vessel and the drinking cup. It was considered the official royal tea vessel of the Imperial Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

It is very exciting for us to carry on Jingdezhen’s rich traditions and the legacy of fine Chinese porcelain through our teaware collections.
