Longjing Tea near Hangzhou

I visited the tea growing region of one of the famous and well-known Chinese teas Longjing green tea with a friend, Andrew who was in China on a Fulbright research grant studying organic tea production in China.

Longjing is a green tea grown and made right outside of Hangzhou one of the most celebrated cities in Chinese classical literature, poetry, and painting. Heralded as a place embodying ideal beauty, Hangzhou and especially Westlake are very literally legendary. This adds to the patina of Longjing’s reputation as a special tea in Chinese culture.

We went in the fall and not during the peak spring tea harvest which is why the photos all have a nice quiet and empty air about them. To see photos of the spring tea harvest of Longjing you can see photos here.
